Coordinators report for the week

Hello Currambena,
Thank-you to Mikee, Rowena, our big Kids, Sarah and Sue for organising and running our information morning. We had about twelve people coming in with more kids being signed up to be on the wait list for preschool and primary.
Fran was absolutely delighted to receive all the swim wear when I gave it to her last Saturday at their Jarjum College Open Day. She was really busy at the time but is going to get back to us with some photos and the swimwear in action! The kids were just fabulous at the Open Day and were very much taking ownership of their little school. I had my own personal guide to give me a speed tour of the building (running up the stairs at speed) not much breath left for lengthy questions.
Tracey is still away on holiday! So I am still it for the newsletter, I hope there weren’t too many mistakes last week.
The Build News – Last week we had another Build meeting with Tim our architect and he presented us with the next conceptual drawing. Staff and the Build Team were very happy with the design which means we are getting close to an actual design. This latest drawing is in the staff room if you want to have a look. We have also had good news that our Building Grant application has been submitted to Canberra.
Reminder
CURRAMBENA BALL Saturday 1st November – please remember to add your name to the list in the office and the payment can be made directly into the Currambena account with your surname and BALL as reference.
FEES – due date Wednesday 5th November

Hello Currambena,
Thank-you to Mikee for managing the office so efficiently while I was away last week.
Thank-you for all the donations of swim wear for Jarjum College. I will be taking them to Fran on Saturday.
On that note Fran is having an open day this Saturday between 11am and 2pm and you are all most welcome to drop by. The address is Jarjum College 117 Redfern Street, Redfern

The battle of the Bomb Park is back on the agenda! Please see further information in this newsletter and there is a petition to sign on the board down at preschool.

There have been a number of concerns about our chickens and there general wellbeing. A decision was made at a school meeting that with the number of children in the school and the frequency of contact there is to be no more physical handling of the chickens.

Our wonderful Tracey has gone away on holiday. So I am it for the newsletter and am very nervous about keeping up the standard!

FEES – Invoicing for this term were mailed out last week. If you have not received an invoice please let me know. The CASP invoices will be mailed out next week

REMINDER -
Please remember to get your name down for the ball, the list is in the office and the payment can be made directly into the Currambena account with your surname and BALL as reference.

Hello Currambena,

Congratulations!  To Sarah who has past her Teacher Accreditation and to Chris in preschool for completing her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

The Next Steps Building

Tomorrow, Friday, Tim is coming to work on site as an “architect in residence” for the day, sketching and/or model making. The kids will be encouraged to drop in on him for a chat, help build something or just see what an architect does. Parents are welcome

 REMINDERS

Afternoon café tomorrow run by Louise’s class. Please check out the notice on their classroom door and the gate

Behaviour Issues – It is wonderful to know our community is a little village raising the child. Often when parents are out and about in the playground and the classroom they will hear or see issues arising with the children. Please remember to alert their teacher as there will more than likely be agreements and discussions that have been happening in the classroom. Taking the incident directly to the parents is not necessarily very helpful for them or the child as it then takes perhaps another day to get to the teacher and for them to work through the issue with all those involved. This is so much part of our conflict resolution and supporting our children through what can be quite a difficult time to manage and resolve issues.

EMAILS – Please, please people are still not getting this …….if you are looking to get a message to the teacher of your child or to CASP please email them directly. This especially applies if you are booking your child into CASP or for someone else to pick-up your child that day for which we definitely need a retainable record.

 Booster seats- 6 still missing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Currambena,

Our All Day Build Planning model making workshop with the kids was fabulous!  Thank-you to all our really passionate participants; kids, parents, teachers and architects. The results of the day are in the classrooms with huge mappings of the school and some wonderfully creative model buildings. It was a great start with our kids on the journey to our future build.

Thank-you to all those who attended Fran’s talk on Monday night and for attending our AGM. We just made the number of 24 to reach a quorum for our meeting! I would have been exceedingly grumpy if we had had to cancel and I had to start the whole process again with letters out to community etc, etc…

Thank-you to our soup makers and to Karen for getting this all organised. The soups were delicious!

Thank-you to Fran for coming and sharing with us about her journey with the kids at Redfern Jarjum College. It was a mixture of funny, sadness and deep shock at the plight of children and families right here on our doorstep in Sydney.

Thank-you to our two outgoing Council members David Brown and Debbie Frail

Welcome to our two new council members Yusuf Pisan (Kai in preschool) and Kris Seckold (Summer in Sarah’s)

Hello Currambena,

We had a very lovely day last Friday with Fran and her Jarjum college kids.

Apparently when they got back on the bus they told Fran they had already had a vote and they were coming back to Currambena the following Friday!  The Jarjum kids just loved the freedom of our playground and playing with our kids

A big thank-you to everyone for being so welcoming and inclusive to our visitors. Thank-you to our parents who organised and ran the BBQ – that was a real hit with all the kids!

To Lane Cove Council, Currambena community would like to offer a big thank-you for donating  the money for our great bike rack. It is gorgeous to see a bunch of little scooters complete with helmets parked in the bike bays.

Welcome to Miriam who is now joining us every Thursday to take music with each class. This is very exciting for all of us to have music in the school again.

Building News

After staff meeting on Monday the architects Tim, Nick and Eifa came and did a beautiful mapping with the staff about our future build. The outcome for the evening is to have an

All Day Build Planning model making workshop with the kids on Friday 23rd May.

Nick and Eifa will be joining us and we would love as many parents as are able to join us in this model building day. Please watch the notice board for more information next week. We are also discussing dates to have a parent evening  this term to discuss our plans so please keep reading this space.

I am hoping everyone has noticed the very first stage in our master building programme – the fabulous new chicken house, work still in progress. Thank-you so much to our builder parents for design, purchase of materials and construction.

Hello Currambena,

This week has just raced away from me. Not a lot to report, we seem to have been busy catching up with office paper work. I also attended an AIS information session on the latest rounds of discussion concerning salaries awards and agreements for school staff.

Jarjum college kids and Fran are coming for a reconnaissance visit on Friday. The brief to the kids from Fran is “ Let’s check out what Currambena school does and do we want to do some of those things at Jarjum” So they are all going to be busy observing and  trying out lots of things.

We understand people would love to catch up with Fran so please come on Monday 26th at 6pm for that catch-up and to hear Fran speak about Jarjum and what the school is all about.  Directly after her talk we will move into our AGM.

ALL CASP for casual in Term 1 and permanent in Term 2 will be posted out next week

Hello Currambena,

Welcome back everyone. I am also back  today ! as my head has been full of building application grant. We hit the submission button last night and so I have kicked that big monkey off my back. It is now just a waiting game and we will not have any idea till the end of the year or possibly early next year as to whether we get any money. Meanwhile we will be going ahead with our plans right through to a DA. Please watch this space for dates for a community discussion evening about future building plans

Thank-you to all those involved in the preparing the data necessary to get our submission completed for this building application. It took up a lot of time and energy from everyone. The final result will be the indicator of how well we have done?

Thank-you to the families that came  on Sunday to do the usual clean-up before school resumed  in the rain too! Please note your efforts are much appreciated.

A big thank-you to all those people for the work that was done over the school break.

Tim Barber (parent) came in and did the necessary repairs on the deck.

Peter the electrician was here to replace the exhaust fan in the kiln room

Ben Advantage Plumbing has installed a new double laundry tub in the preschool and also sorted out the tree root issues with our sewage line

The Acacia Tree Service people have done an excellent job pruning and removing deadwood from all our trees

Hello Currambena,

With sadness, but wishing her all the best we say good-bye to our lovely Lucy who is leaving us to return home to Germany. Lucy, we have loved your time with us and it is a huge thank-you from us all here at Currambena for all the energy and time you have given to our kids and the extra help to our teachers. We send you on your way with all our love for your next exciting journey. Let’s hope your trip to New Zealand will be days of crisp blue skies and sunshine!

Thank-you to all the helpers, participants and bearers of food for the lovely Autumn café last Friday. Judging by the weather this week it seems our café caught the last of our autumn days

During the school break we will be doing some maintenance work in the school.

- Repairs to the timber decking

- plumbing work at the preschool

 - prune and remove the deadwood from our trees. The Acacia Tree people will be here on the grounds Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April . This is dangerous work and so we are requesting that NO PARENTS AND KIDS be in the school on those days or any day you see tree work being done. These dates could change if the weather is too wet for the days booked

REMINDERS

Are you up to date with your FEES?

Friday 11th April is our last school day for the term

Tuesday 29th April is first day back for term 2
