Hi Everyone,

A huge load of sand is being delivered today for our three sand pits. We are asking that all hands mum, dad, cousin, aunty, kids, teachers, visitors? put their hand to a bucket and do a run to each sandpit. If you are worried you have missed the gym this week we also have a wheelbarrow that you could load with sand and pump iron that way! You may think about bringing your own two buckets – 2 keep you balanced.

Health Alert - Everyone should have received an email yesterday advising the community  that we have a confirmed case of whooping cough in Blake’s class.

Reminders…….

Teacher access – please, please be mindful of when our teachers are available for the parents.

School starts at 9am so now this is kid time. Parents need to be catching the teacher at least 10 minutes before this time. If your chat is going to be more than 5 or 6 minutes you may need to be setting up a pre-arranged time.

Office- with the added increase with our Build commitments we are endeavouring to reduce our drop in  traffic into the office between 9.45am and 2.30pm and 4pm onwards unless you have a pre-arranged appointment. Outside of these hours you are always welcome or if it is an issue that cannot wait. Also could you be mindful about using the office as a corridor. Thank-you for your support and consideration.

Hi Everyone,

Thank-you to all you lovely people who were able to come to our teacher parent meeting on Monday. The rain just held off before we quickly dispersed to the individual classrooms. We started with some hand outs: – Fridge 2015 calendars now available in the office, Conflict Resolution fliers and our flier Currambena at a Glance which I have included in the Newsletter.

I will also include a few reminder points I spoke about during our introduction:

-all families please be super diligent about keeping your contact records up to date with the school. An email to the office works best.

-remember you can  set-up a payment plan for your fees if paying in one lump sum is an issue. This must be done by email or a chat in the office before the Fee due date to avoid the late fee levy

-if you are thinking of using the school grounds on the weekend or holidays please inform us in the office before the event.

-resolving issues- this is so so important that we follow the process and not to give up! Often it takes several sessions before all stakeholders are hearing each other. Also please be mindful about not creating negative impressions about the person you have an issue with, during  general conversation with friends and colleagues.

-be mindful of when our teachers are fully on deck for the children and when they are available for the parents. School starts at 9am so now this is kid time. Parents need to be catching the teacher at least 10 minutes before this time if they need a quick chat. If it is more than 5 or 6 minutes you may need to be setting up a pre-arranged time.

Reminders…….

School Records -Please remember we use your child’s surname as the reference for all school data.

YELLOW LID sulo bin – plastics, cans

LIME GREEN LID sulo bin – green waste only NOT sand & dirt, rubbish

Hi Everyone,

Next Monday 9th Feb a must come – we have our Parent teacher evening. For all our new people we start the evening with everyone on the deck with a welcome from Julianna, a quick introduction from our teachers, present council members and CLC. Then everyone moves off to the classroom of the teacher of their child. Of course if you have more than one child it is a little more tricky to get around to each class. We expect the evening to be finishing around 7.30-8.00pm. This is an important evening to hear a little more about how Currambena works and most important to hear how the teachers will be running their class for the term. They will be discussing the social, emotional and working environment in the classroom, curriculum, working together as a team and general practicalities.

 Reminders…….

School Records -Please remember we use your child’s surname as the reference for all school data so that really helps if parents use this when making any payments or email enquiries

Fees – CASP and school please remember if you want a payment plan to email your payment schedule for confirmation before the fee due date.

Recycling – BLUE LID sulo bin –paper and cardboard only

YELLOW LID sulo bin – plastics, cans

LIME GREEN LID sulo bin – green waste only NOT sand & dirt, general rubbish

Hi Everyone,

A BIG WELCOME to all the familiar faces and all our new people big and small.

As you will see we were very busy over the break and now have a brand new shiny top deck. There was quite a lot of excitement about the possible treasure to be found under the deck with all the lunch money that has been lost over the years. The grand total was about $3.80! The lower deck will be done after the renovation of the lower west buildings. We also had a full paint job done in Blake’s room and opened up the wall cavity between the two rooms. Please take a look upstairs it is looking great. Of course we also had our dramas with the server going down and no computers a week before school started! Duncan did a fabulous job working through the weekend and managed to get it all up and running again early last week for the teachers to get started.

Thank-you to all those wonderful people who came in over the weekend and did the BIG clean-up before school started. I am sure you have seen all the black rubbish bags outside the Casp kitchen and the office and so you can appreciate how much they had to do!

Thank-you to Yusuf for taking all our IPADS over the break and cleaning them up.

Thank-you to Grant & Kath for getting very wet yesterday morning clearing the drain at the gate and on the basketball court. We had a river running out the gate and a lake on the court!

Reminders…….

School Records -Please remember we use your child’s surname as the reference for all school data so that really helps if parents use this when making any payments or email enquiries. Often a parent will have a completely different name and so I then need to go into the files to find out who they are talking about child wise.

Fees – CASP and school all due on the 19th February. If you want a payment plan please email your payment schedule for confirmation before  the fee due date.

Authorisation Form – we have included this form  with the newsletter.  Please fill in and hand into the office if you are signing up for CASP or there have been any changes you wish to correct since last year. It is really important we keep these records up to date.

Recycling – lunch wrappings, containers, glad wrap…………….can we please be mindful about this so  keeping throw-away material to a minimum and encouraging your kids to bring containers home.

Hello Currambena,

My office location last week was fabulous! Jervis Bay is such a special place. The camp was very good and the whole team kids, parents and Wendy were a joy to be with.

A big thank-you to Mikee, Tracy and Shai for running a very efficient office while I was away. Having you three gorgeous people there left me with no worries and  so able to put all my energies to helping with the Jervis camp.

Thank-you all, for another great year at Currambena- all the teachers, Mikee, Tracy, Karen, CASP staff, the Build Team, and to all the kids and parents who are so much part of running the school and helping me with the myriads of things that need to be done from the office.

The last thank-you is to our School Council. We have a fabulous team of people who set the tone to an incredibly supportive and highly functional community. Your support is invaluable to the smooth running of my job in the office; thank-you again.

Reminders

FRID 12th DEC Maintenance hours –last day to write in the book

Portrait & class photos are now ready and sitting in a blue basket on the desk in the office. Please remember to come and pick them up. The digital copies will be emailed out shortly.

Last Newsletter - this is it for 2014. There will be no newsletter next week on the last day.

SERIOUS CONCERN- please remember to phone and follow up with a phone call if you wish to have your child picked up from school or CASP  by someone who is not nominated on your signed permission form. For very obvious reason we cannot release a child until we have that permission. If you FORGET, this creates possible unpleasantness and chasing you down to confirm that the pick-up is OK is very time consuming and frustrating for the staff.

Hello Currambena,

This week I feel the year is suddenly on fast forward!

There seems to be a lot happening … started the week with Council meeting on Monday night , Build Team and architect meeting on Tuesday night, preparing all the figures for our 2015 budget council meeting Monday week, getting ready for our end of year rollover and up dates for all our student data, organising quotes and schedules for carpentry, bulletin boards and painting of Blake’s rooms up stairs, replacing the top deck, all of which will be done over the summer break and of course all the other day to day things that happen in the office ..Oh and I am away next week on school camp with Wendy’s group. So put my van in for a service this morning and will be dragging out my camp gear over the weekend. We have had a very big cleanout in my house so the trick will be where has the gear been very tidily packed away?? Here’s hoping it was not in the huge pile on the back of the ute that went to the tip!

The sad news this week has been the passing away of David Cohen one of a small group of intrepid parents that were the shakers and movers that started Currambena. Our hearts and love go out to his family during this tumultuous time of sadness and wonderful memories. We can never stop thanking him for this very ,very special legacy he has left behind – Currambena the happy place.

Information Morning – Thank-you to everyone, kids, parents and teachers who help with the set-up and another very well run morning. We had about 8 families attending and all indicated how much they enjoyed the presentation and school tours

Hello Currambena,

Wednesday was yet  again another one of those very special mornings at Currambena!

You walked through the gate catching wafts of coffee aroma and were immediately greeted by a deck carpeted in a sea of mauve jacaranda flowers. As you came down the steps,  there were the tables, all in a long row looking gorgeous with platters of cut up fruit,  baskets of fresh Danish pastries and tall vases of flowers. To top all this we had the photo mood boards covered in the portraits of all our kids. They are just so stunning as each photo seems to capture a special essence of every child.

If you have not had a chance to see them please pop in. The photo order sheets and envelopes for cash are in a box, on the desk, on your left, as you walk into the office. Orders close on Friday 28th November

Many, many thanks to Tracy & Kath for all your time and patience to take all these lovely photos and for setting up the photo mood boards.

Thank-you to Birgit for managing the set-up and running of the breakfast. It was fabulous!

Thank-you to the two people Christine and Jeremy for coming in on Sunday to do maintenance!!

A request to the Community – we are running a little skinny on the ground for people to help with community events. If you think you can become a regular for a particular maintenance job or social events I would love to hear from you.

Love Julianna

When you don’t have a community you are not listened to. You don’t have a place you can go to and feel that you really belong. You don’t have people to affirm who you are and to support you in bringing forward your gifts. This disempowers the psyche, making you vulnerable to consumerism and all the things that come along with  it.                                 – Sobonfu Some

Hello Currambena,

A very special thank-you to all our wonderful kids for that fabulous concert. We loved your big voices and were able to hear everything that was said. Quite a few people came up to me after and said it was the best concert they had seen at Currambena!

Thank-you to Michael and Blake for the set up and to all the teachers for your time energy and passion that makes it all possible for our kids.

Thank-you to Mikee for coming in at very short notice to manage the office on Monday and Tuesday. I had some random bug that knocked the legs out from under me.

The school is so quiet with some of Sarah’s and all of Louise’s away to camp at Mowbray Park. It was lovely to see all their excitement yesterday as they were preparing to go off on their adventure

Reminder Wednesday 19th November PHOTO EXHIBIT BREAKFAST – 8am hot coffee and croissants.

Our lovely ladies Tracy and Kath will be exhibiting the individual and class photos. So please come to feast your eyes on the beautiful portraits of our gorgeous kids and place your orders. We are looking for another couple of people to help Birgit to do the set-up starting around 7.30am. You can pop into the office and I can run you through where everything is kept.

Hello Currambena,
What a night! The ball was a fabulous success. Many, many thanks to all the folk who helped with organising, set-up, serving, groov’in & working the bar, and the big finale clean-up. Thank-you to Jonathan for spending most of the day and evening basting, turning, checking that most delicious lamb on the spit. A very special thank-you and big hugs to Tracy and Karen our chief instigators of fun and for making it all happen!

Reminder

We will be not using any mikes this year but encouraging our kids to really practise the art of voice projection. So in an effort to reduce noise we are requesting that if you are not sitting on your blanket or deck chair watching the concert to please come around to the deck.

The preschool back verandah and slides will be off limits throughout the concert.

To all families please be mindful that this is outside school hours and your children are under your supervision. Children are not to be in other classrooms or the main building. Our teachers will be managing the children while participating in their play but will not be around otherwise.
