Coordinators report for the week

Hello Currambena,

This week I feel the year is suddenly on fast forward!

There seems to be a lot happening … started the week with Council meeting on Monday night , Build Team and architect meeting on Tuesday night, preparing all the figures for our 2015 budget council meeting Monday week, getting ready for our end of year rollover and up dates for all our student data, organising quotes and schedules for carpentry, bulletin boards and painting of Blake’s rooms up stairs, replacing the top deck, all of which will be done over the summer break and of course all the other day to day things that happen in the office ..Oh and I am away next week on school camp with Wendy’s group. So put my van in for a service this morning and will be dragging out my camp gear over the weekend. We have had a very big cleanout in my house so the trick will be where has the gear been very tidily packed away?? Here’s hoping it was not in the huge pile on the back of the ute that went to the tip!

The sad news this week has been the passing away of David Cohen one of a small group of intrepid parents that were the shakers and movers that started Currambena. Our hearts and love go out to his family during this tumultuous time of sadness and wonderful memories. We can never stop thanking him for this very ,very special legacy he has left behind – Currambena the happy place.

Information Morning – Thank-you to everyone, kids, parents and teachers who help with the set-up and another very well run morning. We had about 8 families attending and all indicated how much they enjoyed the presentation and school tours

Hello Currambena,

Wednesday was yet  again another one of those very special mornings at Currambena!

You walked through the gate catching wafts of coffee aroma and were immediately greeted by a deck carpeted in a sea of mauve jacaranda flowers. As you came down the steps,  there were the tables, all in a long row looking gorgeous with platters of cut up fruit,  baskets of fresh Danish pastries and tall vases of flowers. To top all this we had the photo mood boards covered in the portraits of all our kids. They are just so stunning as each photo seems to capture a special essence of every child.

If you have not had a chance to see them please pop in. The photo order sheets and envelopes for cash are in a box, on the desk, on your left, as you walk into the office. Orders close on Friday 28th November

Many, many thanks to Tracy & Kath for all your time and patience to take all these lovely photos and for setting up the photo mood boards.

Thank-you to Birgit for managing the set-up and running of the breakfast. It was fabulous!

Thank-you to the two people Christine and Jeremy for coming in on Sunday to do maintenance!!

A request to the Community – we are running a little skinny on the ground for people to help with community events. If you think you can become a regular for a particular maintenance job or social events I would love to hear from you.

Love Julianna

When you don’t have a community you are not listened to. You don’t have a place you can go to and feel that you really belong. You don’t have people to affirm who you are and to support you in bringing forward your gifts. This disempowers the psyche, making you vulnerable to consumerism and all the things that come along with  it.                                 – Sobonfu Some

Hello Currambena,

A very special thank-you to all our wonderful kids for that fabulous concert. We loved your big voices and were able to hear everything that was said. Quite a few people came up to me after and said it was the best concert they had seen at Currambena!

Thank-you to Michael and Blake for the set up and to all the teachers for your time energy and passion that makes it all possible for our kids.

Thank-you to Mikee for coming in at very short notice to manage the office on Monday and Tuesday. I had some random bug that knocked the legs out from under me.

The school is so quiet with some of Sarah’s and all of Louise’s away to camp at Mowbray Park. It was lovely to see all their excitement yesterday as they were preparing to go off on their adventure

Reminder Wednesday 19th November PHOTO EXHIBIT BREAKFAST – 8am hot coffee and croissants.

Our lovely ladies Tracy and Kath will be exhibiting the individual and class photos. So please come to feast your eyes on the beautiful portraits of our gorgeous kids and place your orders. We are looking for another couple of people to help Birgit to do the set-up starting around 7.30am. You can pop into the office and I can run you through where everything is kept.

Hello Currambena,
Thank-you to Mikee, Rowena, our big Kids, Sarah and Sue for organising and running our information morning. We had about twelve people coming in with more kids being signed up to be on the wait list for preschool and primary.
Fran was absolutely delighted to receive all the swim wear when I gave it to her last Saturday at their Jarjum College Open Day. She was really busy at the time but is going to get back to us with some photos and the swimwear in action! The kids were just fabulous at the Open Day and were very much taking ownership of their little school. I had my own personal guide to give me a speed tour of the building (running up the stairs at speed) not much breath left for lengthy questions.
Tracey is still away on holiday! So I am still it for the newsletter, I hope there weren’t too many mistakes last week.
The Build News – Last week we had another Build meeting with Tim our architect and he presented us with the next conceptual drawing. Staff and the Build Team were very happy with the design which means we are getting close to an actual design. This latest drawing is in the staff room if you want to have a look. We have also had good news that our Building Grant application has been submitted to Canberra.
Reminder
CURRAMBENA BALL Saturday 1st November – please remember to add your name to the list in the office and the payment can be made directly into the Currambena account with your surname and BALL as reference.
FEES – due date Wednesday 5th November

Hello Currambena,
Thank-you to Mikee for managing the office so efficiently while I was away last week.
Thank-you for all the donations of swim wear for Jarjum College. I will be taking them to Fran on Saturday.
On that note Fran is having an open day this Saturday between 11am and 2pm and you are all most welcome to drop by. The address is Jarjum College 117 Redfern Street, Redfern

The battle of the Bomb Park is back on the agenda! Please see further information in this newsletter and there is a petition to sign on the board down at preschool.

There have been a number of concerns about our chickens and there general wellbeing. A decision was made at a school meeting that with the number of children in the school and the frequency of contact there is to be no more physical handling of the chickens.

Our wonderful Tracey has gone away on holiday. So I am it for the newsletter and am very nervous about keeping up the standard!

FEES – Invoicing for this term were mailed out last week. If you have not received an invoice please let me know. The CASP invoices will be mailed out next week

REMINDER -
Please remember to get your name down for the ball, the list is in the office and the payment can be made directly into the Currambena account with your surname and BALL as reference.

Hello Currambena,

Congratulations!  To Sarah who has past her Teacher Accreditation and to Chris in preschool for completing her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

The Next Steps Building

Tomorrow, Friday, Tim is coming to work on site as an “architect in residence” for the day, sketching and/or model making. The kids will be encouraged to drop in on him for a chat, help build something or just see what an architect does. Parents are welcome

 REMINDERS

Afternoon café tomorrow run by Louise’s class. Please check out the notice on their classroom door and the gate

Behaviour Issues – It is wonderful to know our community is a little village raising the child. Often when parents are out and about in the playground and the classroom they will hear or see issues arising with the children. Please remember to alert their teacher as there will more than likely be agreements and discussions that have been happening in the classroom. Taking the incident directly to the parents is not necessarily very helpful for them or the child as it then takes perhaps another day to get to the teacher and for them to work through the issue with all those involved. This is so much part of our conflict resolution and supporting our children through what can be quite a difficult time to manage and resolve issues.

EMAILS – Please, please people are still not getting this …….if you are looking to get a message to the teacher of your child or to CASP please email them directly. This especially applies if you are booking your child into CASP or for someone else to pick-up your child that day for which we definitely need a retainable record.

 Booster seats- 6 still missing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Currambena,

Our All Day Build Planning model making workshop with the kids was fabulous!  Thank-you to all our really passionate participants; kids, parents, teachers and architects. The results of the day are in the classrooms with huge mappings of the school and some wonderfully creative model buildings. It was a great start with our kids on the journey to our future build.

Thank-you to all those who attended Fran’s talk on Monday night and for attending our AGM. We just made the number of 24 to reach a quorum for our meeting! I would have been exceedingly grumpy if we had had to cancel and I had to start the whole process again with letters out to community etc, etc…

Thank-you to our soup makers and to Karen for getting this all organised. The soups were delicious!

Thank-you to Fran for coming and sharing with us about her journey with the kids at Redfern Jarjum College. It was a mixture of funny, sadness and deep shock at the plight of children and families right here on our doorstep in Sydney.

Thank-you to our two outgoing Council members David Brown and Debbie Frail

Welcome to our two new council members Yusuf Pisan (Kai in preschool) and Kris Seckold (Summer in Sarah’s)
