Starting with THANK YOUs today! Ro (Cameron’s mother) cleaned all the old sticky tape off the windows in our computer corner and the result is wonderful! Thank you Ro! Thank you to everyone who supported our stall last Thursday. We raised over $400 which will go to helping adults and children with cancer. Thank you to the people who came to the Education Committee meeting on Monday to prepare for the Forum next Monday. Thank you to Elli who drove four of our group to Kinma yesterday for a day of meeting and networking with other students.
On Tuesday, we had a visit from five PhD students from Sydney Uni who set up different activities and learning stations about vision and how the eyes work. This was an extra connection from our Scientists in Schools program with CSIRO and was very interesting.
Yesterday, Yusuf (our current Mathematician in School) gave us a fascinating session about the internet and how it works.
This week we also wrote reviews and stories, completed work on area in Maths and have begun preparing for the Lane Cove Children’s Voices for Reconciliation event in the Plaza next Thursday. The theme is “Let’s talk about Recognition”.
We have also volunteered to run a larger Mini Fair (after the success of our organisation last week!) on SATURDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER from 3 TILL 6PM. Our theme is “FOR KIDS BY KIDS” so please keep the date free and we will ask for help as we decide more details!
In this Newsletter there will also be an invitation to members of our group to a weekend visit to Treetops Adventure Park. Angus is organising this on a Saturday for anyone who wants to come. Children over 10 years and over 1.4m tall can do the full ropes courses. Younger and shorter children can do another course which is quite good fun… there is also a Maze Park nearby which is supposed to be good. We need drivers who will act “in loco parentis” for the day and we’ll leave Currambena at 9:30 on Saturday 2nd June. Bring lunch a drink and closed in shoes. $25 per person. Please let me know asap if you can come and how many children you can take.
See you at the Forum and AGM next Monday! Love, Wendy
